Silver Appleyard ducks are one of the best layers among the heavyweight ducks, averaging a whooping 200 eggs per year! These active foragers with calm temperaments tend to stay close to home if well fed. These beautiful ducks originated in England, developed by Reginald Appleyard, were brought to the US in the 1960s. A drake's head and neck are greenish-black with the body a chestnut brown. Females are whitish with gray, brown, fawn, and buff marking with the blue cross stripe on the wing.
